Gilles

Gubelmann

Città dell'anima
from an introduction by Art Historian Alessandra Artale

...His wish for travel is great and in 2005, Gilles leaves for Yemen, the same country that Pier Pasolini, in his Corpi e Luoghi describes as : "Architecturally, the most beautiful country in the world, Sana'a, the capital is a wild Venice lying in dust, without S.Marks" and the  Giudecca Island, a city whose beauty does not lie in perishable monuments, but in its incompatible design...it is one of my dreams."
Gilles Gubelmann is a great and poetical reporter, who formats and illustrates a world that is, at the same time, a natural landscape and a space for the soul, without enphasis and without betrayal. He translates lights and harmonies of places into painting, and follows the most slanting and at times even metaphorical road - the one of sensibility and evocation.
